About the course
Safe Sitter is a nationally recognized program designed for kids ages 11-13. It prepares students to be safe when they are home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. Students learn life-saving skills such as how to rescue someone who is choking, plus practical knowledge like what to do during severe weather. Lessons are filled with hands-on activities and role-play.
Course content
Safety skills
Students learn how to prevent unsafe situations and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies.
Child care skills
Students learn tips to manage behavior so they stay in control of themselves and the children in their care. They also learn the ages and stages of child development and practice diapering.
First aid & rescue skills
Often students’ favorite part of the class. Students learn choking rescue and CPR, plus a system to assess and respond to injuries and illnesses. (CPR is included in Safe Sitter Essentials with CPR and Safe Sitter Expanded.)
Life & business skills
Students practice screening jobs, discussing fees, and greeting employers through role-play, setting them up for success now and in the future.
What to bring
Your child will need to bring a sack lunch, a refillable water bottle, and a snack for the afternoon.
